Our Story
Wanlaweyn Preschool was born from a dream to create the kind of place every child deserves, a place filled with warmth, laughter, curiosity, and care. Inspired by the founder's (Habiba Yousif) childhood in Wanlaweyn, a small coastal town in Southern Somalia known for its hospitality, kindness, and strong sense of community, our preschool carries forward the values that shaped generations: caring for one another, celebrating each child's uniqueness, and creating a welcoming environment where everyone belongs.
As both a caregiver and educator, our founder understands that early childhood is one of the most important stages of life. At Wanlaweyn Preschool, we strive to provide more than childcare—we create a nurturing community where children are encouraged to explore, families are embraced as partners, and every child is given the opportunity to grow with confidence, compassion, and joy. Our hope is that the love and care children experience here will stay with them long after they leave our classrooms.

Our Curriculum
High Scope
Our preschool uses the HighScope Curriculum, a proven, child-centered approach that encourages children to actively participate in their own learning. Through hands-on activities, planning, problem-solving, and reflection, children develop important skills in language, math, social-emotional growth, and independence. Teachers guide and support each child while honoring their unique interests and pace of learning.
Arts & Culture
We celebrate creativity and the rich cultural backgrounds of our families through our Arts & Culture program. Children explore music, dance, storytelling, visual arts, and traditions from around the world, helping them express themselves confidently while learning to appreciate diversity and community. Inspired by the spirit of Wanlaweyn, this curriculum fosters empathy, imagination, and a lifelong appreciation for culture.
Outdoor Learning & Social Development
We believe some of life's most important lessons happen outside the classroom. Through outdoor play, nature exploration, group activities, and collaborative learning, children build friendships, develop communication skills, and gain confidence in social settings. Our Outdoor Learning & Social Development program encourages teamwork, curiosity, resilience, and a sense of responsibility while helping children connect with nature and the world around them.
